Well, my co-worker is insisting that her terminally shy son is really wanting to take me out to dinner and see where things go. For having met this guy once for a couple of minutes with him all but staring at the floor I find it hard to believe but then a couple of her family members have mentioned that yes its really true. He DID hang around the house the whole afternoon while I was visiting a few weeks back, apparently listening to everything I said!
He was upset that no one invited me up for the weekend, but when I told her to invite him to lunch with us on Sunday he panicked and bailed out! Geez.....I was up most of Saturday night with butterflies in the tummy, mentally reviewing my wardrobe, kicking myself for not owning some nicer clothes than jeans and then he chickens out! MEN! What a waste of what could have been a wonderful night's sleep.
Well, the co-worker says that when I come up next weekend that he'll be in a place where he feels more comfortable and then maybe he'll work up the courage. Wow. Never saw such shyness in a family before. But then look at me...I have a problem shutting up nine times out of ten....shyness ceased to be a problem for me years ago!
Still, I definately am heading up there next weekend as this guy has offered to fix the valve on my transmission (bless him!), and I will be up again on the 4th for a concert so it gives him a couple of chances to unwind a bit and realize that I don't bite (well, not on the first date anyway!) Actually, I'll probably just ask if he wants to go to the concert...I guess the butterflies will have to be placed on hold for another couple of days!

Friday the thirteenth....and then some
Well, I survived FT13th.....you know I never had problems with this day before, in fact 13 is one of my lucky numbers, but I think the fact that I had a double helping of 13's that made the day so weird. Allow me to explain....my baby sister is coming down for my brother's graduation. On the big day we had 13 days to go until she gets here. OUCH! First of all I finally tried doing my taxes and ended up spending 4 hours juggling 1040's, moving costs, change of residency status (and with that the lovely state taxes I have never had to deal with before). By the time it was all over I was exhausted, had wasted half of my work day literally pulling out my hair and questioning my sanity. Am I sure accounting is REALLY what I want to go into? I was just noting the other day that UVSC has an Earth Sciences program that I would sooooooooooo love to go into.....
Well once I was "officially" on the clock it seems as if all hell broke loose. Managers calling with all sorts of complaints, problems and just all out "help-me-now-itis" that I considered going back to the relative quiet of my tax forms and just chucking the day completely. One manager even called me while I was grocery shopping after work (oh the joys of having a work-pays-for-it cell!) and grumbled at me while I went up and down the aisles trying to remember was it canned fruit or canned veggies I was wanting and wondering if the pork roast was on a good enough sale this week to buy a package. Sadly, I don't think I can put that on my time sheet, but that's okay...even when he's complaining I find Brian to be a wonderful reminder that HEY....MY LIFE IS GREAT IN COMPARISON!
Actually, the day wasn't really bad.....stressful, but not bad. I survived, mostly intact, to fight again another day....and, on the plus side, I have a baby sis to greet in another 10 days!

I Surrender!!!!!
It takes so little to change one's place in life....today I officially surrendered my Washingtonian status and both me and my car became the legal property of the state of Utah! Funny how something so mundane takes getting used to....though I have already memorized the license number it looks strange to see those pretty blue and orange plates settling in where my white ones sat before....and while for the first time in my life I HAVE A PRETTY PICTURE (!!!!) on my driver's license, changing from my oh-so-easy-to-remember Washington ID to Utah's purely numerical system might be a little more challenging!
I DID get busted at the licensing department though. I have ALWAYS passed the vision test without wearing my glasses so I am used to leaving them in the car and saying "no" to the "do you wear corrective lenses" question. Well, come this morning I answer "no", look into the viewer and end up staring at a hopeless blur. I tried blundering through but after a moment the sweet little grandpa behind the counter quietly asks "sweetie, did you bring your glasses with you?" Crap! Meekly I answered in the affirmative and he sent me trotting out to go get them and start again...darn it, those letter cleared right up once I put on my glasses! He was sweet enough to joke with me about how many women try getting around that one and then let me get my picture taken without the things on. He couldn't resist one teasing barb on my way out though... "I feel a lot better on the road knowing you have those things on now!" Grrrrrr... why does Lasik have to be so darn expensive?
All this for just under $150, 3 1/2 hours of my time and a lot of gas trying to find just how freaking far north you have to drive to reach the licensing department! Okay, while I didn't mind the price or the time....I gotta admit the driving all the way to the topmost part of Orem (seriously I thought I was gonna hit Lindon before I got there!) was a bit much. Of course, the fact that I drove up State Street from Center in Provo might have had something to do with it...if I'd only thought it out I could've jumped on the freeway and been there in no time at all (sigh)....someday I will reach the point where I automatically know these things. Seeing as I now belong here, I hope it will be soon!
