I miss my PC

My PC's drive was on the verge of death....at first I thought it was a virus or just "old age" that was slowing everything down but then programs began to freeze and crash. A consultation with my computer tech/technological genius brother-in-law brought on the much harsher reality that I was NOT to turn my PC on again, ship him the drives and he'd see if it was possible to transfer the information over to new ones.

For a gal who gets truly frustrated at times with computers and all things technological, you'd think a break from my PC would be a good thing.

Not in the least.

You don't realize just how much you do with a PC until its not there. My MP3 player is synched to it so I am unable to remove annoying songs that somehow crept onto its playlists, nor can I add new tunes that have come to my attention. I have (literally) tons of saved data on my PC....everything from pictures of family, my music and video library, images that inspire a "creative spark" with my craft ideas....and pretty much every good picture that I have taken with my camera are lodged within its silicon chips. These things (some of them irresplaceable) are now out of my reach. I am being held hostage with the threat of losing so much valuable information that I didn't even realize I held. For some time now I had been telling myself I needed to buy an external hard drive to back up my files, but always managed to put it off "until my next paycheck". Oh the folly. I am SO going to get an external drive and do regular back-ups from now on.

Don't get me wrong, I love my MacBook....but so much of my personal data is on my desktop so loving the Mac isn't helping at the moment.

I guess the old saying is true, that you don't know what you've got until its gone....

Come home little PC.....I miss you more than words can truly say.

a moment to ponder the virtues of snow......

Snow.....what can you say? A lot actually.....

It freezes my car doors shut (I think I need to have the seals on the doors redone this spring)so I get a lot of exercise just trying to pry my doors open!

I think its also why my car smells so strongly of gasoline right now...all the vents are pretty much clogged with snow except the ones leading into my car! Whew...it was making me sick last night...and this coming from the girl who LIKES the smell of gasoline! I think that needs to be looked at as well....my car does not need to be flooded with the smell of gas every time I turn it on.

It appears to increase the stupidity of drivers all across the U.S., making them believe they are suddenly impervious to accident or injury, no matter how fast or recklessly they drive. I think some Einstein somewhere has worked up the mathematical equation proving this anomaly, however I have yet to find it.

As soon as you shovel the driveway odds are high that another 2 feet will dump down on you...often starting before you even get back in the house.

No matter how much you bundle up, you're still going to end up covered in snow and probably wet after using a broom to push a couple tons of snow off of your car every morning.

I never seem to get warm no matter how high I crank the heat up or how many blankets I crawl under (and a good many of them are wool so you know I've GOT to be warming up)

Snowplows inevitably miss your street and your left wondering if you need to invest in a good team of Huskies to get to work each morning...

On the days the plows DO hit your streets, you then have to dig your way out of the driveway.

Some truly amazing photo opportunites seem to lie just out of reach for a gal without 4-wheel drive....

Even though it is going to end up dirty and ucky in the roads...it really does look lovely coming down.

Its official

My weight loss blog has gone private and, while pics probably won't be posted for another day (my camera battery charger was finally found last night and is charging up my drained battery as we speak!) pics WILL be posted shortly, along with new measurements. I think my goal of a pound-and-a-half a week is not unrealistic and I am happy to say that I accomplished this goal for last week! Yeah me!

Okay, a few people have mentioned wanting access to the weight loss blog but I'll need your email addresses to send you an official invite. Email your address to springvilleshawna@hotmail.com (its an old address so I don't mind giving it out here) if you want me to send you an invite....however, do not be upset if you send me your address and I respond with a gentle "no"....as a heads-up, this will probably happen if you are male.

I have a lot of unpacking finished in my room and its coming together, though I can't find the box that my staple gun is in! Grrrrrrrr.....it must be somewhere in the basement. I'll have to organize those boxes downstairs anyway so I may as well get it over with so I can keep an eye out for the gun and a few other items that somehow slipped into the basement against my wishes. I still have to decide which pictures I want to put up on my walls since I have far too many pictures for the amount of wallspace in my room...

As far as crafts go the good news is that I FOUND MY PICTURES! Whee! These are the ones I was going to work up into blank cards for Etsy so I bundled up all of my cardstock I'd (smartly) hauled off to the office back into the trunk of my car and tonight I plan to work up a few sets. For bad news I must say that the most crocheting I did this weekend (sadly) was starting a dishcloth and then setting it aside as Sam insisted that yarn was for chewing, not crafting. As much of a "helper" as he wants to be I just can't get mad at him for getting in the way.

I got my Christmas present from my mom on Friday (a beautiful kit in fall colors of a leafy crochet bracelet). While I didn't have the time this weekend to crochet it its sitting on my bookshelf and I am anxious to start working on it. It may be a few days, however, as I really want to work up a few more items to put up on Etsy. She also sent me a knit woolen cap in gorgeous colors that is not only light and not bulky but looks darling on me! Its a good thing too since the one I bought last year off of Etsy is a tad too small and keeps slipping up my head until it falls off! Oh, and mom, I love the tag for your shop....very oh la la french peasant.

New Years was fairly uneventful for me...I headed off for bed around 10:30, read for awhile and was probably asleep by 10:30 or 10:45. Of course I woke up at midnight when our neighbors let off some fireworks (I still have no idea why people think setting off fireworks at the stroke of midnight is a good idea when fuddy-duddy's like me want to get some sleep!)

I pretty much spent NY day unpacking a little, then watch a movie, unpack some more and then watch another movie. It took several days at that pace but I ended up watching the entire Star Wars trilogy (in chronological order)....of course by the time I got to "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" I was getting so burnt out on Star Wars that I kept working while the movies played in the background! Luckily I've seen the "old" movies so many times that I could probably still recite them word-for-word so its not like I missed much. Maybe I should have had a Lord of the Rings marathon instead...or, even better, first watched the old "King Kong" and then the Peter Jackson remake! Oh well, I am sure there will be at least one other lazy weekend in my future for this year.....
